What is what do trichomes look like when ready to harvest?

As harvest approaches, observing the trichomes is a reliable way to determine maturity.

  • Clear Trichomes: When trichomes are clear, the cannabis plant is not yet ready for harvest. THC production is still in early stages.

  • Cloudy/Milky Trichomes: A majority of cloudy or milky trichomes signifies peak THC levels. Harvesting at this stage generally provides a more energetic or cerebral high.

  • Amber Trichomes: When some trichomes turn amber, it indicates that THC is starting to degrade into CBN. Harvesting at this point tends to produce a more relaxing, body-heavy effect. A large amount of amber trichomes can mean lower THC content, so it's a balancing act.

  • Ideal Ratio: Many growers aim for a ratio of mostly cloudy trichomes with a small percentage of amber trichomes for a balanced effect.
